Today I fixed a nasty browser hijack for a client. I was looking for a reusable and simple solution and i came up with this; attach a second monitor. IE fills the screen but doesn't span across screens so the 2nd monitor can be used without IE interfering. Right click the desktop on the added monitor and choose Screen Resolution, Select monitor 2 and check the box that says "Make this my primary monitor". The task bar will switch to the monitor you just added and you can now download and run Hitman Pro to delete the Hijack.
I like Hitman as it doesn't require installation but it does require an active internet connection.

Chrome
Adblock plus for Chrome
Adblock plus for IE
Kaspersky Antivirus or MS Security Essentials
CCleaner
ProduKey to backup installation keys
DoubleDriver to backup drivers
Dropbox/SkyDrive to automatically backup important documents
