SysLog & SnmpTrap on the cheap & easy

SysLog is an enterprise class service for tracking problems

download this syslog server for windoze Kiwi
install it as a service; this means that it is alway running even if nobody is logged into windows
-start it up and choose Manage, Install the syslogd Deamon
-Start, Run, net start "Kiwi Syslog Daemon" (Enter)

To View the log from anywhere using only a web browser:
If you don't have IIS installed, install it
From Kiwi; File, setup
-Click "Log to file" in left pane
-In the right hand pane under Path & file name; choose a name that's in your published directory eg. c:\inetpub\syslog.txt (don't end it in .htm or it'll format wrong)
Right click My Computer, Manage, Services and Applications, Internet In Se, Web Site, Default Web Site,
IF you made a directory to put your log files in; Right click on Default Web Site, choose New Virtual Directory; Under local path choose your directory
Choose the documents header; add, type the name of your log file and move it to the top of the list.

Test it:
in a browser type the name or ipaddress of your log server
- if you put your files in a directory you will have to add the directory name to the end
